"I began tai chi in 1986 for the same reason many people do—to deal with chronic pain. After 25 years of practice, all I can say is: it works. Along the way, I was fortunate enough to meet my own teacher, Zhang Xuexin, not long after he'd moved from Beijing to San Francisco in 1991. Whatever I know about tai chi—real tai chi, the kind you can't get from books or videos—is due to him. I'm also enormously grateful to Master Zhang's teacher, Grandmaster Feng Zhiqiang, the founder of Hunyuan Tai Chi. The longer I practice, the more I realize the scope and depth and beauty of what he's created. Over the past 20 years I've tried to absorb as much as I could from these two outstanding teachers, and translate it into simple terms that anyone can understand and apply. I hope I can pass what I've learned along to all those interested in these great traditional arts of healing, regeneration, renewal, and self-transformation.
